Assam: College authority under scrutiny for allegedly removing sacred thread from Brahmin student

In a startling incident during CUET (Central University Entrance Test) exam at Bhawanipur Regional College, authorities have found himself embroiled in controversy after allegedly removing the sacred white thread from a Brahmin student's chest.

According to reports, the caretaker, acting within the guidelines outlined for the search procedure, only permitted the opening of the ring on the sacred white thread, known as lagun, worn by the examinees.

The incident unfolded amidst stringent security measures during the CUET examinations. Examinees wearing burkhas reportedly cooperated with the search process, while those wearing amulets voluntarily removed them without any resistance.

The sacred white thread, known by various names such as janeu, yajnopavita, poita, poonul, jandhyam, or janivara yonya, holds significant religious and cultural importance for Hindu Brahmins, symbolizing their initiation into sacred learning and spiritual discipline.
