Assam: Congress leader Debabrata Saikia condemns CM Sarma's 'Teachers as Beneficiaries' remark

Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia on October 18 condemned Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for calling teachers and artists as beneficiaries.

Saikia while condemning CM Sarma's statement on October 18 said, "Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stirred a controversy by this statement where he mentioned that teachers and artists  are also beneficiaries as calling them beneficiaries will raise issues or limit the usage of certain terms. They claim that the government works for the welfare of the people and as per Constitution the government have certain departments with respective responsibilities. Similarly, there is a rural development department, teachers and several others which as per Constitution are paid for their services as salaries. But calling the salaried person as beneficiary will not be considered appropriate under the constitution in this democratic set-up. Hence I condemn the statement made by the CM."

Saikia said that the government should seek forgiveness for stirring a controversy by calling  teachers and artist community as beneficiaries.

"The government is trying to call the teachers and artists as beneficiaries for their personal motives. Its not for the first time that the government has done mistake. Others too seek forgiveness if they do any mistake. Better the government seek forgiveness from the people of the state for the controversy created", said Saikia.
