Assam: Congress MLA Pradip Sarkar falls victim to fraud, Rs 81 lakh siphoned from bank account

Congress MLA Pradip Sarkar from Abhayapuri South Assembly constituency in Bongaigaon district, Assam, has become the latest victim of financial fraud. A staggering sum of Rs 81 lakh was deceitfully drained from his account across various branches of his bank account including those in Guwahati, Bongaigaon and Abhayapuri.

The fraudulent activity came to light when MLA Pradip Sarkar initiated a transaction involving a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to purchase a car from a local dealership. To his dismay, it was discovered that a significant portion of his funds had been illicitly diverted.

Police responded to the incident, registering a case at the Abhayapuri police station under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 379, 406, 419, 420 and 468, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
