19 contractual workers at Margherita First Referral Unit (FRU) Civil Hospital in Assam have been deprived of their salaries for the past four months, despite a stringent directive from the Assam Government mandating timely payments to all contractual workers.
One of the affected workers, a cleaner who has been employed on a contractual basis at the hospital for several months, revealed his plight. "I have not received my salary of Rs 3000 for the past three months. Whenever I approach the management committee for my dues, I am met with threats instead of support," he lamented.
As per reports, the Margherita FRU Civil Hospital lies in a dismal state. The beds, kitchen, bathrooms, and latrines are in a severely dilapidated condition, emitting foul odors. Despite these pressing issues, the hospital's Deputy Superintendent and the management committee appear to be neglecting their responsibilities, further exacerbating the workers' distress, as alleged by the contractual workers.
