Assam: Dacoit injured in Police encounter in Barpeta

A tense police operation in Barpeta of Assam ended in midnight on Thursday, August 29, with injuries to notorious dacoit Magarav Ali and police constable Nomal Gohain. The confrontation occurred at Goroimari Pathar village as a fallout of efforts to recover stolen money hidden by Ali.

Magarav Ali, a criminal with a notorious record including multiple thefts and an ATM robbery, was apprehended by the Barpeta Police on Wednesday. After the arrest, Ali led the police to the site where the stolen money had been kept. But on their way to the site, Ali tried to flee and attacked Constable Gohain.

The situation deteriorated such that police opened fire, due to which Ali received an injury in his right leg. Ali and Gohain were immediately sent to the Barpeta Medical College Hospital. Ali's injured leg and Gohain's wounds are being treated.
