Assam DGP vows quick justice in Dhing gang rape case; strong measures planned for women’s safety

In the wake of a disturbing gang rape case involving a 14-year-old girl in Dhing, Nagaon district, Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has vowed to ensure justice and implement stringent security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

During his visit to Dhing following the incident, DGP Singh said that the police were dispatched to the crime scene to conduct a thorough investigation. A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act has been registered, though specific details about the minor victim have been withheld to protect her identity.

Singh said that he was in constant communication with the police personnel involved in the case and had informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma about the developments. Acting on the Chief Minister's instructions, Singh traveled to Dhing, where he met with the victim's family and discussed the matter with the investigating officers.

“We are committed to delivering quick justice,” Singh assured. “We have already made one arrest and have substantial evidence against the suspect. We are working on acquiring additional technical support, including mobile data, to strengthen our case further.”

The DGP noted that collaboration with local residents and villagers is crucial for the investigation. “Our investigation is progressing in the right direction,” Singh added. “We will be conducting geo-tagging and enhancing area security to prevent such incidents from recurring.”

As part of the security measures, the Assam police will increase patrolling during evening and night hours. Special attention will be given to areas around girls' schools and locations with significant inter-community interactions. Singh stressed the importance of maintaining security across Samuguri, Rupahi, Juria and Dhing to ensure the safety of women and girls.

Singh's visit included discussions with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Superintendent of Police (SP) Nagaon, and the Nagaon District Commissioner.
