The carcass of an elephant calf was found in Rangapara’s Dhendai tea garden, trapped in a drainage ditch within section 9 of the tea plantation.
The calf, which had entered the tea garden with its mother in search of food, appears to have slipped into the drain overnight. Despite its mother’s desperate efforts to free her young from the mud, the calf was unable to survive the ordeal.
Upon spotting the deceased calf on their way to work, tea garden laborers informed the garden management, who in turn contacted the Amaribari Forest Department.
Responding immediately, a team from the Forest Department is now en-route to the site to investigate and facilitate the removal of the calf's body.
This tragic event comes shortly after another young elephant was successfully rescued by Forest Department personnel in Rangapara.
