Assam: Engine detaches from Sampark Kranti Express at Lumding

A major train accident was averted after the engine of the Sampark Kranti Express unexpectedly detached from the rest of the train while in motion. The incident took place near Lumding, a crucial railway junction, involving the long-distance passenger train en-route from Delhi to Silchar.

According to initial reports, the engine separated from the coaches, leaving the carriages behind on the track. The sudden detachment caused a wave of panic among the passengers.

Authorities quickly intervened to bring the situation under control, and railway officials launched an investigation to determine the cause of the detachment. The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the safety of train operations in the region, prompting calls for an immediate review of railway maintenance practices to prevent such accidents in the future.

While there were no reports of casualties or injuries, the latest incident follows hours after the Agartala Express train derailed at Dima Hasao on October 17.
