Assam: Fake gold seized in Gossaigaon, 2 arrested

Gossaigaon police in Assam arrested two individuals involved in a fake gold scam on October 19.

The arrested individuals identified as Kurujat Ali from Lakshmipur and his associate, Asar Uddin Sheikh, were apprehended while attempting to sell over 1.5 kilograms of counterfeit gold. 

The police operation took place in Gossaigaon, where Kurujat was arrested while trying to sale the counterfeit gold, while Asar was identified as having played a key role in transporting the fake gold.

The investigation revealed that two young men, Ashish Raju Chaware and Gaurav Girimkar, had traveled from Akola, Maharashtra, to purchase the counterfeit gold. They were duped by a man named Firdous, who orchestrated the deal from Sapkata and allegedly took Rs 2.5 lakh from the buyers. Authorities are currently trying to locate Firdaus, who remains at large following the scam.

In a separate incident, the Garmur police took swift action based on a complaint from District Child Protection Unit officer Sangita Baruah. The complaint led to the arrest of Abinash Saikia from Kathnibari village, Kamalabari. 

Saikia is now under investigation at the Garmur police station, facing charges under various sections, including 54/24, 316(5), 318(4), and 336(3) BNS. The details of the case remain under wraps as authorities continue to probe his involvement.
