An incident in Darrang’s Pithakhowapara area of Sipajhar constituency has cast a harsh spotlight on the community, raising questions about humanity and compassion within society. A tragic incident unfolded when a family, were forced to bury an unmarried Hindu woman in her sixties, denying dignity in death.
The deceased, Parul Deka, an unmarried Hindu woman in her sixties who succumbed to health issues on Monday, was buried instead, deviating from traditional Hindu rites.
Despite her death, no villagers came forward to assist in the customary cremation. Left isolated in their grief, the family had no option but to undertake the burial themselves.
Two family members ultimately prepared a grave and buried Deka's body in the cremation ground.
Adding to the family's anguish, three days passed without the presence or acknowledgment of the village head, who, as per the family's allegations, failed to extend any support.
This absence has only deepened the family's sense of injustice as they now seek recognition and accountability from their community.
