Assam: Felling of trees suspected behind uncontrollable gas discharge at Oil India Limited in Duliajan

Gas continue to leak from an oil well owned by Oil India Limited in Duliajan that began spewing uncontrollable gas in the evening of October 19, 2023, following an explosion.

Panic continues to grip at OIL's oil field No 367 in Gajalbasti of Dirial tea estate in Duliajan, as efforts are on to bring the gas leakage under control. It is suspected that some miscreants felled Christmas tree last night that led to the spewing of the gas from the oil well. 

As per the OIL authorities, Oil India Limited authority is trying their best to control the leakge with the help of Crisis Team Management. Presently water is coming out of the well. 

The well is said to be under Production Enhancement Contract with the private contractor KIRI of Gujarat, as stated by the authorities.
