A group of five journalists from Kokrajhar was involved in a severe road accident on Tuesday evening while returning from an event at the Bhutan-India border. The accident occurred near the Bismuri Sonapur area, when the vehicle they were traveling in lost control and crashed into the railing of a bridge.
The journalists were on their way back to Kokrajhar after covering an event organized by the Biotechnology Hub of the Science College at Jharkhari. The vehicle sustained significant damage, especially to its front end, due to the violent impact.
Among the injured was Ashok Kumar Barman, a reporter with Dainik Asom and a resident of Kokrajhar. He was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash and sustained severe injuries, including fractures to his hand and teeth, as well as head and chest injuries. He has been admitted to MRM Private Hospital in Kokrajhar for urgent medical attention.
Other journalists involved in the accident include Suresh Basumatary (News 18), Pranab Musahari (Cameraman, Pratidin Time), Geolangchar Narzary (North East Vision), and David Basumatary (Rising Bodoland). While their injuries were less severe, all are reported to be in stable condition and are receiving medical care.
