Assam: Forest department raids illegal timber mills in Bongaigaon, seizes valuable timber

Forest department in Bongaigaon district conducted a raid in Matraghola, targeting illegal timber mills operating in the area. 

The operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of wooden poles and timber, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in forested regions.

The raid, carried out by the Abhayapuri regional forest department, uncovered the illegal operations of timber mills that had been functioning unlawfully for an extended period. 

The seized timber, including wooden poles and processed wood, was estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 2.50 lakh, indicating the scale of illicit activities in the area.

One of the forest officials said, "We have not arrested anyone yet. We will conduct the investigation and then take further action."

Officials from the forest department coordinated the operation to crack down on unauthorized timber processing and trading activities.
