Assam: Former BJP leader Jayanta Bora formally joins Congress after securing Behali bye-election ticket

Former BJP leader Jayanta Bora, formally joined the Congress party during a ceremony held at Rajiv Bhawan in Tezpur on October 24. The ex-BJP leader joined the party in the presence of MP Gaurav Gogoi.

The decision to grant Bora the party ticket before formal membership is being viewed as a rare occurrence in the political landscape, highlighting the Congress party’s strategic maneuvering ahead of the crucial by-election. 

Bora’s early ticket allocation has positioned him as a unique figure, with some considering it a sign of good fortune. The candidate himself expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the distinctive nature of his political journey thus far.

MP Gaurav Gogoi, who played a pivotal role in Bora's induction, addressed the sequence of events during the ceremony. He pointed to several instances in the past where political circumstances demanded exceptional measures, suggesting that Bora’s case, while unconventional, is not entirely without precedent. 

Gogoi further expressed optimism regarding the party's prospects in the region, affirming that the Assam United Front will continue to stand firm in its political endeavors. 

The senior Congress leader maintained a positive outlook on the future, emphasizing the party's commitment to ongoing discussions and future strategies aimed at consolidating its position in the state. The event concluded with a call for unity and further dialogue within the party ranks, signaling a concerted effort to strengthen Congress' foothold in Assam ahead of the by-election.
