Assam girl stripped, hair cut off by family over 'love affair', video goes viral

A girl from Assam was stripped and had her hair cut off by her family over an alleged love affair. 

The incident, which occurred last Monday, June 10 in Gerukabari, Bongaigaon district, has gone viral on social media. 

The video shows a section of women and men engaging in moral policing against the girl. 

The family accused her of having a love affair with a man, leading to this act of torture.

Earlier in May, the Village Council Development Committee chairman, Sanjit Debnath, found himself at the centre of a storm due to allegations of engaging in an illicit affair.

The incident unfolded in Tilak village, nestled near Basugaon town within the Chirang district on May 12.

Sanjit Debnath, a father of two, was reportedly found under suspicious circumstances at the VCDC office in Tilak village. 

Rumours had been circulating for some time regarding his involvement in an extramarital affair with a married woman from Vijay village, identified by the surname Burman.

The tension escalated when locals purportedly caught sight of the two individuals together at the VCDC office during the late hours of the night. Prompted by their suspicions, the community members intervened, intercepting the duo and promptly alerting the nearby police station.
