Assam government carries out mega eviction drive for Solar Power Plant in Dhubri

The Dhubri district administration conducted a massive eviction operation in Khudigaon II block village, located under the Bilasipara revenue circle. Approximately 1000 bighas of land were successfully cleared of encroachments by the district administration.

This move comes after years of encroachment by 197 families on government-owned land. In 2019, the state government had sanctioned the installation of a 70 MEGA WATT SOLAR POWER PLANT by APDCL on this very same plot.

Despite repeated notices to vacate the area, these families refused to comply and continued to occupy the land. The government orders were blatantly disregarded, leading to necessary action being taken by the Bilasipara sub-divisional administration. Today, with assistance from a large number of police and paramilitary forces, they undertook an eviction drive with utmost urgency and efficiency.

This is not the first time such an operation has been carried out in Dhubri district. Previously as well, the district administration had taken necessary measures to reclaim land that was being unlawfully occupied.

Despite previous arrangements made by the administration to settle landless people, it seems that some families have continued to encroach upon government land. However, the recent eviction drive has brought the issue to light and raised questions about the role of local politicians in this controversy.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing women with babies in their laps threatening to commit suicide in protest against their forced relocation. Tears were shed as families had their homes torn down, leaving them directionless and uncertain about their future.

But what is even more concerning is the allegation that local MLA Shamsul Huda and Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency MP Badruddin Ajmal have been using these illegal residents as a mere vote bank for political gain. It appears that they only show sympathy for these families during elections but fail to address their problems effectively.

As speculations rise about the extent of corruption and misuse of power, authorities must investigate how these illegal residents were able to obtain official documentation and privileges meant for legitimate citizens. The incident has sparked controversy and demands for transparency from both citizens and government officials alike.

The recent eviction drive highlights a pressing issue that needs urgent attention from authorities. The rights of legal citizens must be protected while taking necessary actions towards those who illegally occupy public land. It's time for accountability and fairness in handling such matters to avoid further unrest amongst residents.
