Assam government employee nabbed for alleged Rs 7 crore job scam

A major fraud case has emerged in Assam, where Lohit Das, a government employee, has been accused of scamming people out of approximately Rs 7 crore by falsely promising government jobs.

Das, who works in the Sports Department of the Assam government, allegedly collected large sums of money from individuals across Upper Assam, claiming to secure them positions in various state departments.

It is reported that he even forged the district commissioner's signature to issue fake appointment letters.

The money from the scam was reportedly used to amass properties in Guwahati and other parts of the state.

The case came to light after victims lodged complaints, leading to Lohit Das's arrest by the Dibrugarh police.

This incident underscores the growing issue of unemployment exploitation in Assam, where fraudsters are preying on desperate job seekers. It also follows other major scams in the state, such as the Vishal-Sumi online trading fraud.
