The ill girls were brought to the civil hospital in Tinsukia and provided treatment, but the doctors could not identify the disease, the school's teacher said.

According to the parents, the students fell ill due to mid-day meals, however, the teacher said that mid-day meals are given to students of classes VI to VIII.

On the other hand, Uttam Kumar Dubey, principal of Model School of Hapjan Tea Estate, spoke about the incident and said that after consultation with the doctor, it was found that the students could have been affected due to a physiological disorder known as 'hysteria'

The principal also mentioned the possibility of students falling ill due to fear of having a crematorium near the school.
