In a powerful endorsement of Assam's leadership, prominent Bollywood actor turned politician Mithun Chakraborty praised Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as “one of the most powerful Chief Ministers in the country,” noting his “strong backbone” and decisive leadership style.
“Assam is led by a strong Chief Minister, someone who has a spine,” Chakraborty stated, emphasising a sharp contrast with the situation in neighbouring West Bengal.
“While appeasement politics exists in many places to some extent, in West Bengal, it has spiralled out of control. What we are witnessing there is no longer just appeasement—it’s dangerous and unchecked.”

Highlighting Assam's growing cultural confidence, Chakraborty also noted, “Every corner of India is culturally rich, and Assam is no exception. Our culture is our foundation, and Assam has a significant role to play in preserving and showcasing that cultural strength.”
The remarks underscore Assam's emergence as a politically and culturally assertive state under Dr. Sarma’s leadership, amid national conversations on governance, identity, and development.
