Assam: Herd of 42 elephants wander into residential area in search of food in Goalpara

A herd of 42 elephants has been wandering through Lakhipur in Goalpara, creating concern among residents and prompting swift action from forest officials. The elephants have been taking shelter in the Lakhipur Reserve Forest area, particularly around Ambari, for the past two days.

The elephants, in search of food, have been roaming various parts of the Lakhipur forest. On one occasion, the herd lingered on Ambari Road in Lakhipur for about half an hour, leading to potential human-elephant encounters.

Forest staff promptly halted vehicular and pedestrian movement on Ambari Road to ensure safety. After some time, the elephants slowly moved away towards Banani, allowing normal traffic to resume.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any dangerous encounters between the elephants and local residents.
