Assam: High-level committee visits IWAI Dhubri port over alleged illegal tax collection from A to Z Exim

A three-member high-level committee created by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways of the Government of India, visited Dhubri IWAI Port on Wednesday in response to A to Z Exim's alleged hooliganism and gunda-tax collection, which has deeply concerned the Inland Waterways Authority of India.

The committee, headed by its vice-chairman Sunil Kumar Singh, includes member Vinayak Azad (technical) and regional director (Guwahati) A Selva Kumar who visits Dhubri and listens carefully to all the exporters and cost net freight (CNF) involved in the incident, collect evidence of the same and which they will submit to Sarbananda Sonwal Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways of the Government of India.

Sunil Kumar Singh vice-chairman stated that no threat or illegal activity will be allowed inside the premises of Dhubri port and strict action will be taken to ensure that the guilty are punished as per law.

It may be recalled that by leasing out the IWAI Port Dhubri to a Mumbai-based company called A to Z Exim, the exporters and CNF have purportedly accused A to Z Exim of arbitrary behaviour and collecting gunda-tax illegally. Due to this, the trade process of the port has come to a complete standstill.
