Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing the media regarding journalist Dilwar Hussain and USTM chancellor Mahbubul Haque, emphasized the need to eradicate criminal elements from society. He asserted that his primary responsibility as Chief Minister is to ensure the removal of such elements through lawful means.

"We need to eliminate the bad elements of society. If we fail to do so, then what is the purpose of my position as Chief Minister? My duty is to eradicate crime, including dacoity, theft, rape, and poaching, through legal channels," Sarma stated.
