BJP Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on November 14 stirred the political pot with bold statements about the Congress party, alleging a syndicate within and suggesting financial motivations behind key resignations.
Baruah asserted the commitment of BJP Ministers to serve the people, setting the stage for his controversial claims. He accused Bhupen Borah, a Congress party member, of speculating that their district president, Suresh Bora, might leave the party for a staggering Rs 12 crores. Baruah stated that if the district president were to leave for such a sum, the state president would demand an even higher price of Rs 25 crores.
The BJP Minister alleged that the existence of a long-standing party syndicate within the Congress, going so far as to claim that the term 'syndicate' itself was founded by the Congress party. Baruah questioned the party's integrity, suggesting that if anyone expresses ambitions or requests in the BJP, they are swiftly denied entry.
Baruah pointed to Congress itself downgrading its district president, Suresh Bora, who reportedly left the party for Rs 12 crores. Baruah cited Bhupen Borah's own admission of the amount, stating that these statements were not fabricated by the BJP but acknowledged by the Congress party.
Earlier on November 13, Congress leader Rakibul Hussain called for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to verify the legitimacy of Baruah's claims. Hussain, a seasoned five-time MLA, expressed disbelief at Baruah's audacity and highlighted the Minister's shift in demeanor since his time in the Congress. Hussain recalled Baruah's rise through the ranks, standing "shoulder to shoulder" with Rahul Gandhi and achieving an MLA position.
