Assam: Jamugurihat's Barbhagia becomes a winter haven for migratory birds

As winter sets in, the serene Mont Pukhuri (pond) in Barbhagia, Jamugurihat, Assam transforms into a vibrant hub filled with the calls of migratory birds.

This expansive water body, covering more than twenty bighas, witnesses the arrival of thousands of birds each year. Among the visiting species are northern pintails, pelicans, wild ducks, greylag geese, and tufted ducks, adding life and beauty to the pond, especially during dawn and dusk.

The mesmerizing scenes of these avian guests gracefully playing in the water have captured the admiration of onlookers. The migratory flocks typically arrive in the early days of November and remain for four to five months, leaving by late March.

The continuous and undisturbed visits of these birds are attributed to the locals' dedicated efforts in maintaining an environment conducive to their seasonal stay.
