Assam: Large sum of cash seized at Barpeta Road railway station

In a significant operation late Friday night, the Barpeta Road railway police seized Rs 39.75 lakh in cash during a routine search at Barpeta Road railway station.

The incident occurred when three young men, intending to travel to Tripura on the Kanchanjungha Express, were stopped by the police while waiting at platform number 2. The subsequent search led to the discovery of the substantial amount of cash.

The individuals, identified as Akhtar Hussain and Nazrul Islam from Garemari in Barpeta, and Rinku Mia from Bhatkusi No. 2, have been detained for further questioning and investigation. Authorities are looking into the origin of the cash and the purpose of its transportation.

This seizure has raised concerns about the movement of large sums of money through railway stations, prompting a closer look at security measures and potential illegal activities. The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and heightened vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
