Assam: Major drug bust in Sonapur, weapons seized, 2 arrested

In a major crackdown on drugs trafficking, police arrested two individuals near the Bajoi Hotel in Komarkuchi, Sonapur, based on a tip-off. The joint operation, conducted by the Bashistha, Jorabat, and Sonapur police, resulted in the seizure of 202 packets of suspected illegal substances weighing approximately 1.3 kilograms.

The suspects, identified as Rupchand Ali and Ajibur Rahman, have been residing in rented accommodations in Kopalkata, Sonapur, for a considerable period. Following their detention, law enforcement conducted a thorough search of their rental properties, which led to the discovery of additional incriminating materials. A pistol was recovered from Rupchand Ali's residence, along with a substantial cache of drug-like capsules and packets, intensifying suspicions of an organized drug distribution network.

According to police sources, Ajibur Rahman had been renting a house owned by Iddis Ali, while Rupchand Ali resided in a property owned by Abu Ali, both located in the Kopalkata area. The search operation and subsequent discoveries underscore a broader effort by law enforcement to target narcotics trafficking in the region.

Authorities are currently undertaking a detailed examination to confirm the nature and exact quantity of the seized substances, as some materials appeared similar to drugs but require further testing. The arrests and seizures represent a crucial step in the ongoing fight against illegal drug operations in Assam, with officials pledging continued vigilance to root out such activities.
