Assam: Majuli ferry services hit by fog and low water levels

From 7.30 am on January 11, dense fog and a sharp decrease in the water level of the Brahmaputra river have disrupted connectivity between Majuli's Kamalabari and Nimatighat, resulting in multiple ferry cancellations.

On January 11, the visibility was notably affected by the fog. Given these conditions, operating ferries poses numerous risks, including the potential for ferries to become stranded in the sand due to the reduced water levels.

However, sources assure that the marine engine boats are safe for passengers, equipped with all necessary safety measures such as life jackets.

The operation of the ferry service and marine engine boats is being closely monitored by the Inland Water Transport (IWT) to prevent any unfortunate incidents.
