Assam: Mangaldoi police arrest man in child trafficking case; victim sold for Rs 35,000

Police have uncovered a child trafficking operation in Darrang district, Assam. The case came to light when authorities rescued a child who had been sold for 35,000 rupees.

Nayan Jyoti Dev Kashyap, a resident of Kalaigaon, was arrested for allegedly selling one of his partner's children without her knowledge. Kashyap had recently moved to Gerimari, Mangaldoi, after meeting a woman with four children on social media.

The Darrang District Child Protection Department alerted local law enforcement after receiving information about the incident. Police subsequently detained Kashyap, along with a middleman and the buyer from Bongaigaon Salmar.

All suspects have been presented before a Mangaldoi court and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine if there are additional victims or accomplices involved in the trafficking scheme.
