Assam: Massive fire guts several shops in Goalpara, property worth over Rs 20 lakh destroyed

A major blaze erupted in Goalpara late last night on May 3, resulting in the destruction of seven shops. The inferno, which engulfed the area of Chandariya in Barpahar within Goalpara town, caused extensive damage estimated at over Rs 20 lakh. The fire, suspected to have originated from a rickshaw parked near a shop in Barpahar, quickly spread, consuming multiple establishments.

The calamity began when a local resident noticed billowing black smoke, swiftly followed by the ignition of flames. Despite immediate efforts by bystanders to extinguish the fire, their attempts proved futile. Subsequently, the assistance of the fire brigade was sought, eventually bringing the blaze under control. However, by the time the flames were quelled, seven shops had already succumbed to the fire's wrath.

According to reports from residents in the vicinity, the monetary loss incurred as a result of the fire exceeds Rs 20 lakh. This unfortunate incident underscores the urgent need for heightened vigilance and effective fire prevention measures within communities to mitigate such devastating consequences.
