Assam Minister for Water Resouces, Information & Public Relations Pijush Hazarika while speaking to the reporters on the alleged secret understanding between Congress, AIUDF and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on the sidelines of the Assam Legislative Assembly session questioned whether the trio will unite again to fight in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to he media on February 21, minister Hazarika quipped, "Congress and AIUDF were friends in the earlier elections. In the earlier elections too we witnessed Congress-AIUDF coming together as an alliance, they openly took part in the elections as one. After losing the elections, each started accusing each other leading to the breaking up of the alliance. Again we witnessed both the parties coming together as one during the Rajya Sabha elections. Then suddenly Akhil Gogoi jumped into the bandwagon who began accusing AIUDF. They will continue to blame AIUDF as being communal, Badruddin Ajmal is the biggest communal person and others. But today inside the Vidhan Sabha we witnessed a different picture".
"One AIUDF MLA raised a question on Gorukhuti project. And who extended support? Congress, CPM, and Akhil Gogoi. For us it is a topic of laughter. AIUDF MLA was not even out, but the entire party representatives of Congress and AIUDF staged a walkout", added minister Hazarika.
Doubting on the actions of Congress, AIUDF and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi, minister Hazarika alleged there is a secret understanding between the trio.
"Will Congress-AIUDF unite again to fight Lok Sabha elections? I dont want to speak anything into the inside politics of Congress as they are already on the verge of collapse. Hence there is no use commenting on this", said minister Hazarika after being questioned on the recent state of Congress.
Earlier, AIUDF leader Aminul Islam raised a question on the floor of the House of Assam Legislative Assembly asking about the government agricultural project in Assam- Gorukhuti project. Not satisfied over the answer recieved from the government, AIUDF along with Congress staged a walkout.
Speaking on the incident, AIUDF leader Hafiz Rafizul Islam said, "We always want to fight for the people of Assam, together. Opposition is united on issues of people. Today, AIUDF leader Aminul Islam asked a question about the government agricultural project in Assam - Gorukhuti project. Two years back, 2000-2500 families were evicted from there to make space there and leave them homeless...In the last two years, the government released Rs 18-19 Crore there...But the income was only Rs 2.5 Crore...So, we raised these questions, told them to shut down the project and rehabilitate the farmers there...But the Government did not give a satisfactory answer...We walked out and Congress supported us."
