A minor girl has been allegedly raped in Assam's Kokrajhar town. The victim, reported to be 16 years of age, was drugged by the accused and then raped.
Meanwhile, police nabbed the accused identified as Anowar Hussain last night. Meanwhile, a case has been filed under the POCSO Act at the Kokrajhar police station. The victim's medical checkup has also been conducted and doctors have confirmed a case of rape.
The accused, on the other hand, has been admitted to a local hospital in Kokrajhar after he highlighted some health issues. However, it is likely that he may be discharged soon and taken into custody by the police.
Meanwhile, the All Adivasi Students Association (AASA) has demanded strict action against the culprit.
"We have come to know that an Adivasi girl has been raped yesterday in Kokrajhar town. We at AASA also feel that girls from the tribal communities are particularly targeted for these type of crimes. We condemn this act. We are also demanding that the authorities should give the required punishment to the culprit. We hope that strict punishment is given to the culprit so that such a heinous crime never takes place again," Salim Minz, a local AASA leader.
