Assam: Minor girl rescued in Mangaldoi in 'Love Jihad' case, accused caught

A minor girl from Assam's Mangaldoi was saved from an incident being described as "Love Jihad." The accused, Sajel Ali (21), was apprehended with the assistance of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) members.

'Love jihad' is a phrase popularised by right-wing organisations to denote the relationship between a Muslim man and a non-Muslim woman where the Muslim partner wishes to convert the non-Muslim.

Acting on a tip-off, VHP members, in collaboration with the Mangaldoi Police, conducted a swift rescue operation. The minor, who was suffering from severe abdominal pain, was found at her brother's house in Ramhari.

She was immediately rushed to Mangaldoi Civil Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Her rescue and Ali’s arrest were promptly executed, ensuring her safety.

Sajel Ali, a resident of Mangaldoi, was taken into custody. The coordinated efforts of local authorities and VHP members led to the successful rescue and subsequent arrest.

In a related incident, the Mangaldoi police are on the lookout for a Muslim young man from Goalpara who allegedly eloped with the mother of a twelve-year-old boy. The pair is believed to be hiding in one of the city's hotel lodges. Despite thorough searches by the police and VHP members, their whereabouts remain unknown.

Investigation is underway into both cases.
