Assam: Missing child found dead in Margherita river during Durga Puja festivities

The body of a 5-year-old child was discovered floating in the Buridehing River near Margherita on Monday, bringing an end to a four-day search.

The child, identified as Abhimanyu Chakraborty, had been missing since Friday morning during local Durga Puja celebrations.

Margherita police and the Executive Magistrate recovered the body from the river. It has been sent to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Abhimanyu had disappeared from his grandfather Satyajit Bhattacharjee's home in Lazum ward number 4 of Margherita. The boy's sudden disappearance and fate have cast a pall of gloom over the entire Margherita Co-District.
