Dr. Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, the MLA from Assam and General Secretary of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has voiced strong opposition to the government's proposal for "One Nation, One Election," calling it "unnecessary" and "impossible to implement."
Speaking on the issue, Dr. Islam stated, "I believe that 'One Nation, One Election' is not needed. It is almost an impossible task.
Despite the order being passed, it is very difficult to implement." He further warned that if the policy were to be implemented, it could undermine the democratic process. "If it is implemented, then there will not be free and fair elections. It is an attack on the federal structure of the country," he added.

Dr. Islam likened the potential failure of the proposal to that of the controversial demonetization policy, suggesting that it could lead to widespread disruption and adverse consequences. "It will be just like demonetisation, a great failure," he remarked.
The proposal for simultaneous elections, which aims to hold both Lok Sabha and state assembly elections at the same time, has been a subject of intense debate across the political spectrum.
Supporters argue that it would streamline the electoral process and reduce the cost of elections, while critics, like Dr. Islam, express concerns over its feasibility and the potential erosion of federalism and democratic integrity.
As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the government will address the concerns raised by political leaders, including those from Assam, who fear the proposal may not be in the best interest of the nation’s diverse and decentralized political structure.
