The Moran community in Assam is celebrating Rongali Bihu with traditional fervor observing the first Bohag on Tuesday, April 18.
People from the Moran community gathered in Tinsukia’s Thana Chariali to observe Goru Bihu on April 19, enveloping the Tinsukia town into a festive colour.
People enjoyed a daylong celebration, beginning the day by bathing the cows as part of the Goru Bihu tradition followed by making the exotic Amrali dish (insect dish) and serving authentic Assamese cuisines such as pitha, bora saolor jolpan served with gur (jaggery), narikolor laaru (coconut sweet), etc.
Bihu dance, along with traditional Moran Bihu songs strummed the air in Tinsukia.
Remarkably, the Moran Community celebrates Rongali Bihu a day late than the original one celebrated by the Assamese people as whole.
