Assam: My rank is below Bhupen Borah, still around 7,000 people attend our meetings, says Pijush Hazarika

Assam BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika on November 7  asserted that the Congress party stands little chance of winning elections or seats in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). Hazarika, while speaking to reporters highlighted the stark contrast in the attendance of their respective public meetings, emphasizing the growing support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the region.

"In my last two meetings in BTC, there were around 6,000 to 7,000 people who attended the public gathering," said Hazarika, emphasizing the significant turnout at BJP events. He acknowledged the seniority of Bhupen Borah, the Congress party's president in the region, and remarked, "My rank is much lower and below than Bhupen Borah. Bhupen Borah is senior, and he is Congress party's president, but I am not."

Hazarika went on to compare the attendance at BJP and Congress meetings, stating, "Lots of people come to our public meetings. I am a second-level worker of BJP, and in our meetings, we witness remarkable attendance. First-level workers of BJP, like Himanta Biswa Sarma, also draw crowds of around 7,000 people to their meetings."

Highlighting the disparity in numbers, he added, "Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress leader Bhupen Borah are of the same level and rank, and my level is not that of Congress leader Bhupen Borah. However, in our public meetings, around 6,000 to 7,000 people come, whereas in Bhupen Borah's public meetings, only around 250 to 300, or at best 350 to 500 people attend."

Hazarika didn't hold back in criticizing the alliance between Congress, TMC, and AIUDF, saying, "A few days back, Congress's Bhupen Borah, TMC's Ripun Bora, and AIUDF's Badruddin Ajmal met together. Do they have any shame? They said AIUDF is BJP’s 'B-team.' Do they have short-term memory?"

Expressing gratitude for the public support, Hazarika said, "We have tried to come in public, and people love our Chief Minister also. People support us during our meetings, and we thank the public and people of Ranganadi." He urged voters to be cautious of Congress, alleging that many Congress leaders in the region have not delivered on promises.

Looking ahead to the upcoming assembly elections, Hazarika expressed confidence that delimitation would have a significant impact on BJP's prospects. "Delimitation will have an impact, and we will win 100 seats in the upcoming election. Our seats will increase. Due to delimitation, BJP will win more than 100 seats, and this time we will win 12 seats, so delimitation will definitely have its impact," he said.
