Assam: Mystery surrounds death of man ferrying coal in Ledo

Mystery has shrouded the death of a man who was working as a driver to a coal ferrying vehicle in Assam's Ledo.

The victim, identified as Sanjeeb Mahato, hailed from Namfai in Jagun of Tinsukia district. So far, nobody is even sure as to what was the nature of the death. Was it an accident or a murder? The question still persists with no answer yet.

What is surprising is that even before the victim's family could come over and claim the body, the police took the body for post mortem and after that dropped the body at the victim's brother's house at Tinisuti.

Now the death of the youth and questions surrounding the matter has prompted the people to demand for a proper probe into the case.

"What is surprising here is that nobody knows as to how the accident happened or how he died. We have come to know that last night the authorities took the body from the Ledo police station and conducted post mortem, without even telling the guardians. How can the authorities in Ledo conduct post mortem without informing the guardians? Is it even lawful? We doubt that some untoward incident must have happened while the man was driving the coal truck. Who is the owner? They later handed over the body at his house to his relatives. But why did they not inform the guardians before the post mortem? We doubt that there is some secret understanding between the authorities and the coal truck owner. Now who will look after the victim's family? Who will give them compensation? We want justice," said a local person.
