Assam: Namdang residents demand action as government's water initiative fails to deliver clean water

Despite the government's ambitious "Har Ghar Nal, Har Ghar Jal" (Tap water in every home) initiative, residents of Namdang Old Line and Gara Line under Kumarpatty Gaon Panchayat in the 83rd Margherita Constituency are still struggling to access clean drinking water.

The situation is particularly severe for tea garden workers of Namdang Tea Estate, who are forced to consume contaminated water from a nearby stream.

The stream, which flows through the tea garden, is reportedly polluted with toxic chemicals used in plantation activities. This has left residents vulnerable to a host of waterborne diseases, including skin problems, jaundice, and gastritis.

Residents allege that a water purification project under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was established in the area several years ago, but it has failed to provide any tangible benefits. Despite the reported completion of the JJM project, not a single drop of clean water has reached the community.

The locals are now demanding immediate intervention from the authorities to address the dire water crisis. They urge officials to ensure that the promises of clean drinking water are fulfilled without further delay.

The health and well-being of the Namdang residents depend on swift and effective action to rectify this long-standing issue.
