Assam: One poacher arrested during search operation in Tamulpur, rhino horn seized

In a meticulously planned operation led by the Field Director's Office of the Manas Tiger Project in Barpeta Road on Thursday night, a significant breakthrough was achieved in the ongoing battle against wildlife crime. The operation resulted in the arrest of a notorious rhino poacher, Matia Soren, hailing from Tamulpur.

Acting on a credible tip-off, a team from the forest department, under the leadership of the state's chief wildlife conservation officer, Sandeep Kumar, swiftly moved to raid the residence of the alleged poacher, Matia Soren, situated in Tamulpur. During the operation, a valuable rhino horn was successfully recovered from the house of Matia Soren.

The successful execution of the operation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of dedicated personnel, including Manas National Park Assistant Director Jasimuddin Ahmed, and Forest Officers Papari Kachari and Nayanjyoti Pathak, who provided crucial assistance throughout the operation.

Matia Soren has been apprehended and is currently being held for further interrogation at the Field Director's Office of the Manas Tiger Project in Barpeta Road. The forest department's investigation into the matter is ongoing, with efforts underway to unveil the complete details surrounding the poaching incident.

Further updates on the investigation are expected to be disclosed as the forest department progresses in its inquiry.
