Assam: Pijush Hazarika slams 'certain people' for attacking cops, shares video

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika posted on X condemning an attack on police personnel in Dhing, Assam. On June 28, Hazarika posted on X, expressing concern over the incident and alleging intolerance from a specific community towards law enforcement.

"It was an incident that took place a few days ago in Dhing, Assam. Look how intolerant people from a particular community are attacking the police on duty in the form of attackers," Hazarika wrote in his post, attaching a video that shows a mob assaulting police officers in Dhing, located in Nagaon district of Assam

Earlier on June 27, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that a particular section of people were creating disturbances in the state after Lok Sabha election results were out on June 4. He further directed the police to handle such forces firmly.

Speaking to the media after a cabinet briefing in Nalbari, Sarma said "We have observed that certain people are trying to disrupt peace in the state through serious criminal activities."

He also said that some people are trying to destabilize Assam which has remained peaceful for the last 3 years.

Sarma's remarks were seen as a response to Hazarika's earlier Facebook post on June 26, in which he claimed that several incidents have been occurring in Assam since the Lok Sabha election.

Hazarika also claimed that coincidentally these incidents hint at the involvement of "one person" who belongs to a certain community.

In cognizance of this, Sarma, during the briefing, highlighted five notable incidents: recent rape cases in Mazbat, Dhekiajuli, and Dudhnoi, as well as mob violence in the Barpeta and Kokrajhar villages.

Sarma added, "While such crimes had significantly reduced over the past three years, there has been a troubling spike in incidents over the last month."
