Assam plans to build sluice gate to mitigate flooding in Pandu: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to construct a sluice gate to channelise floodwaters and mitigate future flood risks in Assam's Pandu. During a visit to the flood-affected region, Sarma assured residents that immediate and comprehensive measures would be taken to address the crisis.

Speaking to media, Sarma also mentioned that addressing all the flood-related issues would require a comprehensive process, and the government would do everything within its capacity.

"The authorities will build a Swiss gate to channelize floodwaters in the Pandu area," Sarma stated, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure to manage the floodwaters effectively. He also noted that the water level of the Brahmaputra River is expected to recede today due to the absence of rainfall, providing a brief respite for the affected areas.

The chief minister further said that the flooding in Pandu has been intensified by the backflow of water from River Brahmaputra, inundating surrounding areas.

Residents have been vocal in their demands for the construction of sluice gate to prevent such occurrences in the future. Responding to these concerns, Sarma confirmed that he has consulted with engineers and committed to providing all necessary support for the project.
