Assam Police arrest one drug peddler with contraband worth Rs 16 crore

Continuing its relentless efforts against illegal drug trafficking, Assam Police in a successful crackdown on illegal drugs trade arrested one drug peddler on July 10.

Acting on specific inputs, a special operation under the leadership of STF chief Partha Sarthi Mahanta was carried out against the drug peddlers who were reportedly supplying drugs from Kangpokpi in Manipur to Assam’s Changsari. 
As per sources, the drug peddlers had selected and visited the areas for unloading the contraband. However, as per inputs the peddlers decided to offload at Sonapur.

Accordingly, the vendee was traced travelling in a Honda City. The vehicle of the peddler was stopped at Sonapur Tollgate by a team of Assam Police led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional SP (HQ) Kamrup. However, the peddler tried to escape for which one round had to be fired.

The peddler who was driving the Honda City namely Mafizul Haque(34 yrs) of Mollapara, Garigaon, Ps Jalukbari was caught with 145 soap boxes containing heroin weighing 2 kg. 

Further investigation underway to ascertain linkages to the seizure made in the operation.
