Assam police arrest one in crackdown against child marriage in South Salmara-Mankachar district

In another child marriage operation in South Salmara-Mankachar district's Kalapani police station area, one individual has been apprehended by the Assam police.

A team of Kalapani police raided a village in the South Salmara-Mankachar district in response to a tip and captured an individual identified as Phulowar Hussain.

The son of Abdul Azad, a resident of Jordanga village, Phulowar Hussain married a 13-year-old girl from Chirakhowa village in South Salmara-Mankachar three years ago.

Thus, the alleged unconstitutional husband from Chirakhowa village was taken into custody by Kalapani police.

Following questioning, Phulowar Hussain was sent by the Kalapani police to the Hatshingimari court and following procedure sent to Dhubri district Jail.

The All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) today took out a motorcycle rally at Gossaigaon, to protest and raise awareness against social evils such as child marriage. 

The motorcycle rally today saw participation by a large number of AAMSU members with reports of over a thousand motorcycles assembling for the rally. The rally was inaugurated by AAMSU's president Rezaul Karim Sarkar. The rally aimed to promote awareness among the general public against social evils, the main one being child marriage, which is a raging topic in Assam nowadays. 

Apart from child marriage, the motorcycle rally also attempted to raise awareness against other social evils such as drug abuse, alcoholism and child labour.
