Assam police launch search operation to rescue tea executive suspected to be abducted by ULFA (I)

The Tinsuika police have launched a search operation to rescue a tea garden executive abducted from Tinsukia district in upper Assam by suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) rebels on October 24.

Gautam Basumatary, who worked as a factory worker manager of Himalayan Tea Company in Jagun in Tinsukia district, was abducted by a group of five armed youths.

While no ransom call has been received yet, police confirm that with the CCTV footage, soon the motive and main accused behind the incident will be notified.

"We have received a report at the Jagun police station at around 1:30 AM that five armed men came to the tea factory and kidnapped one identified as Gautam Basumatary. Upon receiving the information, we have initiated an investigation. We have also received CCTV footage and have also received clues of the route used by the miscreants, " said Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Tinsukia district.

Further, the top cop also asserted that the border area along Arunachal Pradesh has also been sealed and the search operation has been initiated.
