Assam: Pre-poll violence rocks Samaguri, BJP and Congress workers clash, one injured

A tense situation prevailed in Assam's Samaguri after another incident of BJP and Congress workers clash was reported on October 16. The incident left Ashraful Alam, the social media convener for the BJP's Samaguri Mandal, seriously injured following an alleged attack by Congress workers.

The altercation reportedly stemmed from social media comments made by Alam criticizing Tanzil Hussain, son of prominent Congress leader Rakibul Hussain. Allegedly, the comments prompted retaliation from supporters loyal to Rakibul, who targeted Alam. The BJP worker was attacked with a sharp weapon by individuals described as Congress "goons," resulting in serious injuries.

Following the assault, Alam was immediately rushed to a hospital in Nagaon for medical attention. The incident has heightened political tensions in the area, with party leaders from both sides trading accusations of inciting violence during the ongoing electoral process. Authorities are investigating the incident, as the re-poll in Samguri continues to witness an increasingly fraught atmosphere.
