A large-scale protest demanding the immediate repeal of the Waqf Bill Amendment Act took place in Nilambazar on April 7, organized by several Muslim organizations.
The demonstration saw participation from over a thousand protestors who gathered at the premises of the Nilambazar Circle Officer’s office, raising slogans and expressing their discontent with the recent legislative changes.
Tensions escalated when protestors attempted to block National Highway No. 6, leading to a brief clash with security personnel. Police and paramilitary forces were swiftly deployed to manage the situation and restore order.
While the protest remained largely peaceful, the minor altercation with law enforcement temporarily disrupted traffic and movement in the area. Authorities have confirmed that the situation is now under control, and no major injuries or arrests have been reported.
Local leaders of the Kaibarta Muslim Organization stated that they would continue their agitation until the controversial amendment is rolled back.
