Assam: Protests erupt over gate closure at Dibrugarh Medical College as residents clash with police

Tensions flared at the Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh as residents from the Alubari Line of the Jalan Tea Estate staged a strong protest against the abrupt closure of their main access gate. The unanticipated decision by AMC authorities to block the gate sparked outrage among the residents, who gathered early in the morning at the entrance, demanding its immediate reopening.

The protest soon turned confrontational, with heated exchanges leading to a physical clash between the demonstrators and police personnel.

The situation escalated rapidly as officers attempted to disperse the crowd, resulting in the detention of several protesters. In a further move to enforce the gate closure, authorities employed a JCB excavator to dig up part of the entryway, thereby completely blocking the path and preventing access.
