Assam: Raid conducted at Morigaon regional forest office amid ACS official's disproportionate assets probe

A joint raid was conducted by the Chief Minister's Vigilance team and the Forest Department  at the Morigaon Regional Forest Office, targeting alleged misconduct by forest officer Shivani Pegu Doley.

The operation extended to her residence in Panjabari and other premises linked to her and her husband, Ashwini Doley, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sivasagar District Council.

During the raids, officials uncovered a significant quantity of valuable timber from their Panjabari home, along with assets suspected to be disproportionate to their declared income. Investigators believe the timber may have been illegally sourced and potentially misused, taking advantage of Shivani Pegu Doley's official position.

Sources suggest the recovered timber might be linked to smuggling activities, raising further concerns about the misuse of resources. The ongoing investigation has intensified scrutiny, with simultaneous raids being carried out at properties in Panjabari, Sivasagar, and Shivani Pegu Doley’s office in Morigaon.
