Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev has called for a 10-hour-hunger strike against the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Delimitation draft on July 10.
The 10-hour-long hunger strike will start at 9 am on July 10 and the TMC leader will be accompanied by her party members.
''We want the chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma to listen to the people of Barak Valley and write to the ECI about it,'' said Dev while speaking to media over the same.
She further said that Sarma is not the Chief Minister of one party or of a particular area, adding, ''People of Barak Valley also voted for him and it is his duty to listen to voices of commons living in Barak Valley."
Commenting on ECI for refusal to meet the delegation of 11 political parties, Dev said that it was their duty to spare five minutes for these leaders which consists of MPs and MLAs.
''It was the duty of the EC to listen to the delegation consisting of MPs and MLAs and political parties. Why Election Commission refused spare five minutes to meet them? ECI asked the delegation to mail the memorandum to them,'' the MP said.
She further alleged that ECI is functioning in an undemocratic way and it conducted the process of delimitation without consulting.
''There is no hesitation in saying that ECI is functioning under the pressure of one party,'' she said.
