Assam: Rare species of turtle rescued in Bilasipara

In a remarkable display of community vigilance and prompt action, a rare species of turtle was rescued from peril in the waters of Nayahat Fakiranijhar, Bilasipara, Assam. 

The saga unfolded when a local fisherman, casting his net in the bill, stumbled upon the majestic creature. 

Recognizing the significance of his find, the fisherman wasted no time and promptly alerted the authorities at the Rokakhata Forest Beet office.

Responding swiftly to the call, forest officials descended upon the scene, ensuring the safe retrieval of the rare turtle.

Under the directives of the Salkosa Range Forest Officer, the turtle, estimated to weigh between 25 to 30 kg, was entrusted to the care of the forest department. 

With conservation at the forefront of their agenda, the forest department orchestrated the release of the endangered turtle back into its natural habitat. 

Accompanied by a team of dedicated officials, the rare species of turtle was ceremoniously returned to the embrace of the Brahmaputra river. The liberating moment transpired at Sandardinga, within the sub-division of Bilasipara.
